International Women’s Day Report 2024# Inspire Inclusion

On March 9th, 2024, The Apollo University, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, celebrated International Women’s Day with a variety of events and activities that highlighted the achievements and challenges faced by women around the world. The day was an opportunity for the university community to come together and reflect on the importance of gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Events and Activities: The celebration began with a welcome note by Dr. T Jayanthi (Principal, Apollo College of Nursing) and the keynote speech by the chief guest, Dr. Parvati Vinod Bhat (Former Professor and Head of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Melaka Manipal Medical College), who discussed the contribution of women in our society and the importance of gender equity and equality.

The inauguration ceremony began with the lighting of the lamp by the chief guest and other dignitaries Dr. T Jayanthi (Principal, Apollo College of Nursing), Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan (Associate Dean, AIMSR), Dr. Manjulatha (HoD, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, AIMSR), Dr. Shani S S (Co-convenor, Women Empowerment Cell, TAU), Dr. Haseena (POSH Convenor, TAU). This was followed by the address by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. H. Vinod Bhat. His speech was inspiring and thought-provoking and resonated with the audience.

Screening of the documentary of Mrs. Sucharitha Reddy (Wife of the founder of Apollo Hospital group, Hon’ble Chairman Padma Vibhushan Dr. Prathap C Reddy) was proudly hosted. The documentary chronicles the remarkable life and achievements of Mrs. Prathap C. Reddy, a pioneering figure in the field of healthcare and a true inspiration to women around the world.

In the event, the University organized a felicitation ceremony to honor Dr. Sirajunnisa Rahim, HoD, Department of Pathology, and Dr. Saraswaty Udupa (Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry) for their outstanding achievements and contributions in their respective fields. University also felicitated the housekeeping staff (non–teaching staff) Mrs. M Geetha, Mrs. K. Jyothi, and Mrs. G Rani. The event was a celebration of excellence, inclusion, and a recognition of their hard work and dedication.

The event concluded with a cultural program, featuring music, and dance performances by the staff and students of Apollo Knowledge City. The performances were a celebration of women’s creativity and resilience and showcased the important role of art in promoting social justice and equality.

The celebration of International Women’s Day at The Apollo University in 2024 was a resounding success, bringing together the university community to honor and celebrate the achievements of women.
