Dr. Praveen Hoogar is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work, School of Social Sciences and University Research Coordinator, The Apollo University, Chittoor-Andhra Pradesh.
He is from a village called Devarakonda in Kalaghatgi taluk of Dharwad District, Karnataka. He has completed his master’s degree and PhD from the department of Studies in Anthropology at Karnatak University Dharwad. His research focused on the Halakki Vokkalu community; a tribe exclusively found in Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka State. The topic of his study was “A Study of Health Seeking Behaviour among the Hallakki Vokkalu community of Uttar Kannada District, Karnataka.” In 2014, he successfully qualified the UGC-NET with Anthropology.
In the Asia-Pacific region, he is recognized as a certified ATLAS.ti trainer, specializing in qualitative data management and analysis software. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor and Coordinator at the Centre for Bio Cultural Studies, Directorate of Research, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal. Prior to this, he held various positions in different institutions. He worked as a Teaching Assistant in the Department of Anthropology at Karnatak University, Dharwad, a Research Associate at the Transdisciplinary Centre for Qualitative Methods, MAHE Manipal, and a field Investigator/Research Assistant at the Karnataka State Tribal Research Institute, Mysore, under the Government of Karnataka.
Furthermore, he is an esteemed collaborator in the Global Burden of Diseases project, conducted by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation at the University of Washington. In addition to his research and academic pursuits, he holds important roles within professional organizations. He serves as the Ex-Officio Vice President of the United Indian Anthropology Forum, a Governing Council Member of the Anthropological Association for Humankind in Hyderabad, and a Life Member of the Anthropological Association, Mysore, as well as the Indian National Confederation and the Academy of Anthropologists.
