The Role of Equality Highlighted in Human Rights Day Celebration by AMUN at TAU
The Apollo Model UN (AMUN) Club of The Apollo University observed Human Rights Day on December 10, 2024, with a series of productive and engaging activities. The event, held at Lecture Hall 4 starting at 2:00 PM, aimed to emphasize the importance of human rights and promote awareness among students.
The program commenced with an inspiring address from the Chief Guest, Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, Controller of Examinations and Registrar i/c. In his speech, Prof. Sethuramasubbiah emphasized the role of young minds in upholding and advocating for human rights in today’s world. Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah emphasized the enduring significance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a guide to justice and equality, highlighting the dignity of every individual. He also noted the pivotal role of the United Nations in fostering global awareness and collaboration to uphold these fundamental rights. His words set the tone for a meaningful discussion on the significance of this global observance.
A major highlight of the celebration was the Elocution Competition, which saw the passionate participation from over 50 students across various disciplines. The competition provided a podium for students to voice their perspectives on human rights issues, showcasing their eloquence, critical thinking, and promise to social justice.
The event was graced by the presence of notable guests, including Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Associate Dean & IQAC Coordinator, School of Technology, and Dr. S. S. Shani, Coordinator of Student Affairs and Assistant Professor, School of Social Science. Their presence added depth and meaning to the occasion.
The celebration was a collective effort driven by the vision and guidance of the university’s Registrar, Dr. M. Potharaju, whose initiative to celebrate National Observation Days has become a stamp of The Apollo University. The event was scrupulously organized under the headship of Dr. Sudha Paipuru, Faculty Coordinator for AMUN and Assistant Professor at the School of Health Sciences, with the active involvement of student coordinators from AMUN.
