Say ‘NO’ to Sexual Harassment at Workplaces –An Awareness Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment @ The Apollo University Chittoor
An awareness programme on preventive measures for sexual awareness in the workplace was organized by the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), The Apollo University, Chittoor on Saturday, 13th July 2024 at 02.00 PM in Lecture Hall 4. The idea behind the birth of the awareness programme was in the light that a healthy working environment can only foster a productive workforce. The objective of the program was to promote gender amity among colleagues and ensure support services to prevent sexual harassment inside the university by understanding its preventive measures. The event’s Chief Guest Dr. H Vinod Bhat, the honorable Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University Chittoor, mentioned the importance of equal opportunities, moral values, and zero tolerance for sexual harassment in his keynote address. He stressed the importance of value-based education and the sense of morality that a person acquires from childhood as a foundation for his behavior in the workplace.
The session was blessed by the distinguished speaker Dr. Subhadradevi Velichety, Professor of Anatomy at Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), Chittoor who shed light on critical aspects of preventing sexual harassment in the workplace. Her knowledge and expertise on The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013, made the session interesting through various instances and personal experiences she confronted as a member of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). She also provides insights on dealing with the procedure for filing a complaint to the internal committee and the impact of such behavior. Dr. Subhadradevi concluded by pointing out the need for educating staff at the workplace about the different sexual harassment and the significance of courage in raising their voice when a person is facing any harassment in their workplace.
The session was wrapped up with interactive discussions and fruitful suggestions by engaging the faculties and staff of The Apollo University to promote a healthy work environment. Professor Potharaju M Registrar, The Apollo University, Chittor, was also present for the session. Dr. Hima Bindu G B, ICC chairperson for the University proposed the welcome address. The session was organized for the employees of The Apollo University, Chittoor and there was active participation from the faculties and staff members. The session was a feather in the beacon of academic excellence in the university profile to foster a healthy working environment and study atmosphere for employees and students.
