Mock drill on Choking Management First aid

The 4th semester students of BSC. EMT Program conducted a Mockdrill on Choking First Aid on 24th May 2024 under the guidance of Ms. Anwesha Paul.

The scenario involved a coworker suddenly choking while eating lunch in the break room. Employees nearby quickly recognized the signs of choking and called out for help. arrived on the scene and assessed the situation. The “choking victim” was unable to cough, speak or breathe.

Immediately began administering back blows between the shoulder blades with the heel of the hand. After 5 back blows, the victim still could not cough up the object, then performed 5 abdominal thrusts, placing one hand on top of the other between the navel and ribcage and pressing into the abdomen with quick upward thrusts.

After 3 cycles of back blows and abdominal thrusts, the object was dislodged, and the victim began coughing and breathing normally again. The mock drill was a success, with students quickly recognizing the emergency and calling for help. A student from the EMT program demonstrated proper choking first aid technique and the drill helped reinforce the importance of being prepared to respond to a choking emergency.
