Independence Day Celebration
Aligning with the central theme of the 2024 Independence Day celebration, ‘Viksit Bharat,’ which is aimed at the national vision of development by 2047, The Apollo University, Chittoor, celebrated the 78th Independence Day with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervor. The event was marked by various activities, bringing together students, faculty, and staff to honor the nation’s freedom.
The celebrations began with a flag-hoisting ceremony, presided over by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H. Vinod Bhat. The Vice-Chancellor unfurled the national flag, symbolizing the pride and sovereignty of India. The gathering stood in reverence as the national anthem was sung, evoking a sense of patriotism among all present.
Prof. H. Vinod Bhat, along with the First Lady, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Upon their arrival, they were warmly welcomed with the presentation of saplings as a symbol of sustainability and the university’s commitment to environmental conservation. This thoughtful gesture highlighted the importance of nurturing not only the nation but also the environment.
Following the flag hoisting, Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan, the Associate Dean, Apollo Institute of Medical Science and Research, (AIMSR) delivered the Independence Day message. Her talk was based on the freedom struggle of the past, present, and future. She eloquently spoke about the significance of the day, paying tribute to the freedom fighters whose sacrifices paved the way for India’s independence. Along with the national figures, she took the opportunity to mention the leaders of Andhra Pradesh who were part and parcel of small and large revolutions.
Dr. Ramya also emphasized the role of education in nation-building and the responsibilities of the younger generation in shaping the future of the country. Her speech was thought-provoking as she referred to India’s achievements in all sectors, from farming to space research. She emphasized the necessity of building three pillars in our lives for nation-building: education, research leading to innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The event proceeded with a prize distribution ceremony, where students were recognized for their excellent performances in various sports activities. The Vice-Chancellor handed out the awards, encouraging the winners to continue striving for excellence in all their endeavors. After the prize distribution, the audience was treated to a series of cultural events. Students showcased their talents through patriotic songs, dances, and mimes, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of India. These performances added colour and vibrancy to the celebrations, leaving the audience mesmerized.
