The International Women’s Day Events at The Apollo University Celebrated the Strength, Spirit, and Dreams of Women

The Apollo University came alive with spirit and celebration on 7th March 2025, as the campus gathered to honor International Women’s Day — a day dedicated to recognizing the invaluable contributions, achievements, and resilience of women across the world.
The day commenced with the inauguration of a special health check-up camp exclusively for women employees and girl students, highlighted the importance of women’s health and well-being. The camp was inaugurated by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H Vinod Bhat, who highlighted the remarkable ability of women to balance multiple roles — as caregivers, professionals, and leaders — with grace and strength. In his address, he urged women to prioritize their own health not just during special events but as part of their daily lives, emphasizing that self-care is the foundation for nurturing others.
The event was graced by the Registrar, Prof. M Potharaju, Dean of AIMSR, Dr. Alfred J Augustine, Deans of various faculties, and the Chairman and Members of the Apollo Women Empowerment Cell (AWEC), whose dedication and efforts made the day truly special.
The celebrations continued at 2:30 PM with a vibrant cultural program and a series of inspiring expert talks, setting the stage for reflection, celebration, and motivation. The Guest of Honor, Dr. Parvathy Vinod Bhat, Former Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at MAHE, Manipal, delivered a heartfelt address aimed particularly at the young men in the audience. She encouraged them to become pillers of change by respecting, supporting, and celebrating the women in their lives — be it their mothers, sisters, colleagues, wives, or daughters. Highlighting the rising role of women in national leadership, she noted the presence of seven women in the member council of ministers in the current government, along with India’s woman President — a powerful symbol of how far the nation has come in recognizing women’s leadership.
The stage was then graced by the Chief Guest, Mrs. Anjali Naren Tirumala, who captivated the audience with her inspiring life story. Reflecting on her own journey from dreaming big at the age of 19 to living her dreams today, she emphasized the power of dreams and determination. She encouraged young women to dream boldly, work tirelessly, and never allow doubt or mockery to dim their vision, reminding everyone that dreams, fueled by hard work, have the power to create magic.
Whole-hearted speeches were delivered by Ms. G. Chandrakala and Ms. S. Deepa from the Housekeeping Department, who shared how their employment at Apollo transformed their lives. They spoke about how financial independence and job security have improved their living conditions, enabling them to support their families and build a better future. Adding to the celebration, a soulful song was sung by Ms. Padmavathi S, from the same department. The event also honored Mrs. K. Subbalakshmi, a dedicated nurse from the Surgery Department at Apollo District General Hospital, for her outstanding service. With nine years of dedicated service and as the senior-most staff member at 47 years, she was recognized for her exemplary conduct and commitment to patient care, as recommended by the Human Resource Department.
Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan, Associate Dean and Professor of Surgery at Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, graced the occasion with her esteemed presence. As a leader in academics and a role model for aspiring women professionals, her participation added great value to the celebrations.
The Women’s Day celebrations were meticulously organized by the Women Empowerment Cell (AWEC), led by Dr. Shaik Haseena, Assistant Professor, School of Health Sciences, as Convener, and Dr. D. Shahanaz, Assistant Professor, School of Management, Dr. Sai Kalyani Yogini C, Assistant Professor, School of Health Sciences, Ms. Denika Fernandes, Lecturer, School of Health Sciences, and Ms. G.
