The Apollo University NSS Unit Celebrates Ambedkar Jayanti with a Strong Call to Community Service

The NSS Unit of The Apollo University celebrated the birth anniversary of Dr B. R. Ambedkar, the principal architect of the Indian Constitution and a tireless crusader for social justice, with a series of events aimed at educating, empowering and inspiring students to contribute meaningfully to society.
The event featured quiz competitions, seminars and a pledge ceremony, engaging students in reflecting on Dr Ambedkar’s vision of an equitable and inclusive India. The activities highlighted his unwavering belief in education as the foundation for empowerment and progress.
The valedictory function was inaugurated by Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar of The Apollo University, who delivered an impactful address, drawing on Dr Ambedkar’s life as a call for strength, resilience and transformation. He emphasised the need for NSS Units to act as catalysts of community engagement and encouraged the Programme Coordinator and Officers to curate a structured calendar of impactful service activities. He strongly urged the students to emulate the qualities of Dr Ambedkar to lead a good career. “These opportunities,” he said, “not only serve society but also shape students into responsible professionals and leaders.
Development must be holistic — extending beyond academic excellence into real-world impact.” Adding to the inspiration, Dr Ramaiah Itumalla, Dean of the School of Management, reminded students to remain grounded and focused amidst life’s challenges. “Dr Ambedkar turned every adversity into a stepping stone. Let us remember that crises are not roadblocks but hidden opportunities waiting to be unlocked,” he said, urging students to face hardships with clarity and courage.
The celebration was coordinated under the leadership of Dr S. Hemadri Reddy Salla, NSS Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences, with Dr Shaik Jakeer (Assistant Professor, School of Technology – Unit I) and Ms A. Gayathri (Lecturer Grade I, School of Health Sciences – Unit II) serving as NSS Programme Officers. The event concluded with a prize distribution for Quiz and Seminar Presentation winners, a collective pledge to uphold the values of equality, justice and fraternity as envisioned by Dr Ambedkar and a renewed commitment to serve communities with empathy, action and purpose.
