Special Lecture by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Hon’ble VC, TAU at the School of Management

The School of Management had the distinct honor of hosting a special lecture by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, the Honorable Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, on 5th April 2025. Dr. Bhat, a respected academic and healthcare leader, delivered an insightful and inspiring session on “The Evolution of a Rural Hospital” a Case Study from Karkala, Udupi District, Karnataka.
Drawing from over 15 years of personal experience, Dr. Bhat detailed the transformative journey of a rural healthcare facility in Karkala, which began as a modest hospital and gradually evolved into a renowned teaching institution and one of the leading healthcare providers in the region. His lecture traced the hospital’s development, highlighting key milestones, strategic decisions, and the challenges overcome along the way.
A significant point of emphasis in his talk was the impact of the hospital on improving institutional deliveries in the rural area, thereby enhancing maternal and child health outcomes. He illustrated how access to skilled medical care close to home made a tangible difference in the community’s health indicators.
Dr. Bhat also delved into the managerial dimensions of building and sustaining a healthcare institution. He provided practical insights into the core functions of planning, organizing, coordinating, staffing, budgeting, and decision-making, sharing real-world applications of these principles from his leadership experience.
