‘Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahautsav’ From 12-Aug To 18-Aug
In accordance with the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC), The Apollo University successfully organized the “Anti-Ragging Awareness Mahautsav” from 12-08- 2024 to 18- 08 -2024. The event aimed to educate students about the dangers and consequences of ragging, promote a culture of respect and inclusivity on campus and ensure the well-being of all students. The Mahautsav featured a screening of documentaries related to anti-ragging, a pledge-taking ceremony, and various competitions to engage the student body actively.
On August 13th, 2024, Apollo University, Chittoor, organized an Anti-Ragging Awareness Program aimed at educating students about the dangers and consequences of ragging while fostering a safe and inclusive environment on campus. The event was honored by the presence of the esteemed Chief Guest, Mr. V. N. Manikanta Chandolu, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh.
The Vice-Chancellor of Apollo University, Professor H. Vinod Bhat, addressed the gathering, reiterating the university’s zero-tolerance policy towards ragging. He emphasized the crucial role of educational institutions in shaping the character of students and the importance of maintaining a harmonious and safe campus atmosphere. He also highlighted the responsibility of teachers in ensuring a safe and supportive environment that promotes learning.
In his keynote address, Mr. V. N. Manikanta Chandolu stressed the importance of creating a ragging-free environment within educational institutions. He encouraged students to recognize their “Lakshmana Rekha”—the moral boundaries they should respect both on and off campus. He highlighted the severe legal consequences of engaging in ragging and shared real-life examples to illustrate the profound impact it can have on both victims and perpetrators. His speech was both informative and thought-provoking, urging students to foster a culture of respect, empathy, and camaraderie while respecting the freedoms of others.
The SP also underlined the Anti-Ragging laws and regulations that the university is obliged to follow and proposed initiatives to help students understand the fine line between moral and physical dilemmas. His interaction was particularly meaningful, as he concluded by encouraging students to explore their inner potentials and strive for personal growth. By sharing his own inspirational life story, the SP captivated the audience, earning applause from the student body. His final question, “Is it worth wasting your life in any criminal activity?” left a lasting impression and provided food for thought for the students.
The presence of other dignitaries, including the Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, the Chief Operating Officer, Mr. P. Naresh Kumar Reddy, Deans, and other key figures, reassured students of the administration’s support in addressing any issues related to ragging. The program also featured an interactive session where students had the opportunity to ask questions and express their concerns.
The involvement of faculty members and a large number of students further added to the significance of the event. The efforts of the Student Coordinator, Dr. S. S. Shani, in organizing the event were widely acknowledged, as the program successfully raised awareness and reinforced the university’s commitment to ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for all.
