The Apollo University NSS Units Pay Tribute to Campus Workforce with a Strong Message on Safety and Staff Well-being

The NSS Units I & II of The Apollo University marked International Workers’ Day with a deeply thoughtful and empowering awareness programme aimed at celebrating and safeguarding the very hands that build, maintain, and nurture the campus every day. Held at the Dr. Prathap C Reddy Knowledge Centre at 11:00 AM, the event was inaugurated by the esteemed Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, who served as the Chief Guest and addressed the gathering with words of gratitude and encouragement for the university’s dedicated workforce.
In his inaugural address, Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar of The Apollo University, emphasized the instrumental contribution of support staff to the smooth functioning and growth of the campus. He highlighted that celebrating May Day is not merely a tradition, but a journey initiated to respect the dignity, safety, and well-being of every worker in the campus. Prof. Potharaju encouraged all attendees to prioritize safety and continuously stay informed about best practices in workplace health and security. He commended the NSS units for their thoughtful initiative and expressed confidence that such efforts nurture a culture of care, respect, and responsibility across the campus.
The event focused on raising awareness around workplace safety for housekeeping staff, construction workers, food and safety teams, and other essential support personnel. True to the spirit of service and solidarity, student volunteers from both NSS units stepped up to lead interactive sessions, presentations, and demonstrations—educating the workers on essential safety measures, usage of protective gear, and practical toolkits for ensuring day-to-day workplace security. A quiz was also conducted after the awareness session to assess the knowledge and awareness levels of the attendees.
The awareness sessions were led by a dedicated group of student presenters who took the initiative to educate and engage the support staff. Representing AHS-NSS Unit 1, Ms. Sushma and Mr. Dhilip Kumar from the School of Health Sciences delivered insightful sessions, while Ms. K. Chandana and Ms. C. Omlatha from the School of Technology of NSS Unit 2 conducted informative presentations. Their efforts reflected the spirit of service, responsibility, and leadership that NSS stands for, making the sessions both impactful and meaningful.
The initiative not only aimed to inform but to empower—to let every individual on campus know that their safety and dignity matter. The presence of the Dean of the School of Technology, Dr D. Jagadeesan and the Dean of Management Dr Ramaiah Itumalla and along with faculty members and supervisors, reflected a collective commitment to inclusive development and a culture of care.
The events organized by the NSS Units of The Apollo University were a reminder that the strength of the campus lies in the unity of its people and in the vision of a safer, more respectful working environment for all. The impactful execution of the May Day programme was made possible under the dedicated leadership of Dr. S. Hemadri Reddy Salla, NSS Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences. He was ably supported by Dr. Shaik Jakeer, Assistant Professor, School of Technology (Unit I), and Ms. A. Gayathri, Lecturer, School of Health Sciences (Unit II), who serve as NSS Programme Officers. Their collective efforts ensured that the event was not only informative and engaging but also deeply aligned with the university’s values of inclusivity and social responsibility.
