HIV and AIDS Awareness Month Culminates with Engaging Sessions at Apollo University

The Apollo Well-being Centre at The Apollo University (TAU) successfully concluded its month-long lecture series, “Understanding HIV and AIDS: Knowledge for a Healthier Tomorrow,” with a valedictory session held on December 06, 2024, at 2:30 PM. The event, which hunted to raise awareness and promote understanding of HIV and AIDS, featured insightful sessions from eminent experts in healthcare and psychology throughout the month.
The valedictory session was chaired by Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, the Controller of Examinations (CoE), who reiterated the initiative’s impact and emphasized the importance of continued efforts in combating HIV/AIDS through education and community involvement. The CoE also felicitated the speakers for their valuable contributions, highlighting their role in nurturing a deeper understanding of the disease among students and faculty.
Dr. Ramaiah Itumalla, Dean (I/C) of the School of Management, also spoke during the valedictory session, emphasizing the importance of integrating healthcare awareness into academic curricula and promoting interdisciplinary partnership to engage in communal challenges like HIV/AIDS. He tinted how students, as future leaders, have a crucial role in spreading knowledge, combating stigma, and fostering a supportive environment for affected individuals.
A role play demonstrating the importance of empathy and awareness in addressing HIV/AIDS was performed by students, adding an engaging and impactful element to the event. The speakers were felicitated with mementos and certificates in recognition of their valuable contributions to the lecture series.
The lecture series, inaugurated on November 7, 2024, by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of TAU, brought together an impressive lineup of experts. The lecture series continued throughout November, with expert speakers addressing field research, psychological well-being, and strategies to combat stigma associated with HIV/AIDS.
The initiative, organized by a dedicated team of faculty members—Dr. D. Kothandan, Dr. Hima Bindu G.B., and Dr. Sudha Paipuru—has been praised for equipping students with critical knowledge and encouraging a culture of empathy, inclusion, and responsibility. Their collaborative efforts ensured the awareness program was both impactful and highly informative for all participants.
