A Tribute to the Architect of Modern Education at Apollo University by Social Responsibility Club
The Social Responsibility Club of The Apollo University commemorated the birth anniversary of Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, a visionary freedom fighter, educationist, and founder of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). The event, held from 2 PM to 3 PM at G-05, paid tribute to Malaviya’s invaluable contributions to Indian society, education, and the nation’s independence movement.
The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, who delivered an inspiring address, emphasizing Malaviya’s remarkable legacy and its relevance in today’s educational and social context. Dr. Bhat, Hon’ble appreciated the efforts of the Social Responsibility Club in honoring lesser-known personalities and individuals who have significantly contributed to the enlightenment of society. He remarked that Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya was one such luminary, an institution builder of education in India, whose contributions continue to inspire generations. Dr. Bhat reflected on Malaviya’s journey from being a teacher to a lawyer and his close association with Mahatma Gandhi during the Non-Cooperation Movement. He also highlighted Malaviya’s massive role as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University for almost two decades, shaping it into a premier institution of learning. In his address, Dr. Bhat acknowledged Malaviya’s enduring legacy in the field of education and drew a thoughtful parallel to the contributions of the former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away days back, underlining the importance of visionary leadership in shaping India’s educational and societal landscape.
Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, Controller of Examinations, delivered a compelling address during the event, shedding light on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya as an unsung hero of India’s freedom struggle. He highlighted Malaviya’s role as the editor of Hindustan Times, transforming the newspaper into a powerful tool for India’s freedom movement by voicing the aspirations and struggles of the nation. Prof. Sethuramasubbiah also spoke about Malaviya’s emphasis on social justice and his visionary efforts to blend traditional and modern education. He underscored how Malaviya’s educational philosophy was rooted in empowering society through knowledge while preserving India’s rich cultural heritage. His address inspired the audience to reflect on the importance of education in creating a just and equitable society.
The program was skillfully coordinated by Dr. Athipalli Divya, Assistant Professor, School of Technology, and the Faculty Coordinator of the Social Responsibility Club, whose efforts in motivating students to observe such significant days were widely appreciated. Special mention was made of the efforts of Professor M. Potharaju, Registrar of The Apollo University, whose vision to inspire clubs to commemorate the contributions of historical visionaries has been influential in creating awareness among the new generation. His guidance ensures that such events conducted in the university become a platform to educate and instill the values of great leaders in the university community.
A quiz on Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya and a tribute to his legacy through the offering of flower petals were also part of the event. The program was attended by Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Assistant Dean of the School of Technology, Dr. Vijay M, Club Supervisor, and Dr. S. Feroz Begum, Assistant Professor, School of Technology. The Apollo University encourages a culture of awareness and responsibility, ensuring that the ideals of visionaries like Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya continue to resonate with today’s youth.
