The Apollo University Inaugurates Herbal Garden to Promote Sustainable Health Education Practices in Higher Educational Institutes
The Apollo University took a significant step towards promoting sustainable health education and environmental stewardship with the inauguration of its Herbal Garden. The initiative was led by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, and ceremonially inaugurated today at 3:30 PM on the university campus.
Managed by the Apollo Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Herbal Garden is a dedicated space featuring approximately 100 medicinal plants, thoughtfully selected for their therapeutic value and environmental benefits. The inauguration event witnessed active participation from the university’s NSS Wing, whose volunteers enthusiastically contributed to the plantation drive.
In his inaugural address, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat encouraged students and faculty members to sustain the garden with the same enthusiasm and work towards making it a model initiative for other educational institutions. The garden symbolizes the universities commitment to environmental sustainability and health education, and the present student community can contribute to its growth and preservation for future.
The initiative was implemented with the support of Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar, The Apollo University. Leading the event was Prof. Dr. K. Bhaskar Reddy, Dean of the Apollo Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dean-in-charge of the School of Health Sciences, along with his dedicated department including the faculties and students. Their commitment includes enhancing the diversity of plants and ensuring the garden’s sustained development.
Prominent participants included Mr. Naresh Kumar Reddy, Unit Head and Operations, Apollo Knowledge City, who also contributed by planting a sapling. Deans-in-charge Dr. Charupalli Sunil Kumar (School of Technology) and Dr. Ramaiah Itumalla (School of Management) further enriched the event with their active participation.
The Herbal Garden adds to the campus’s aesthetic appeal and serves as a “living laboratory” for students, offering practical exposure to medicinal plants and fostering deeper insights into Ayurveda and traditional medicine.
The Apollo University remains committed to integrating environmental awareness into its academic ethos, creating a holistic learning environment for students and faculty alike.
