TAU Hosts Expert Session on Research Grant Writing and Proposal Evaluation with ICAR Scientist Dr. O.N. Tiwari Chittoor
The Apollo University (TAU) hosted a two-day academic program titled “Grant Gurus: Elevating Research Excellence” from October 16–17, 2024, featuring an expert session by Dr. O.N. Tiwari, Principal Scientist at ICAR – Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) and member of the DST Task Force, Government of India. The event aimed at enhancing the research capabilities of faculty members and scholars at TAU by focusing on competitive grant writing and funding mechanisms.
The inaugural session at 10.30 AM in Lecture Hall 4 was presided over by the by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat. After the lamp lighting ceremony, Prof. Bhat emphasized the importance of such initiatives in fostering a research-driven environment at TAU. His speech was focused on the three major pillars for which a university stands for. He stressed on creating the balance between education, research and outreach in every education institute by refereeing to the examples of reputed universities around the globe. Dr. Bhat was enthusiastic in listing out the major achievements where the university could support in the activities of outreach carried out in the birthplace of the Chairman in Aragonda.
In his address, Dr. Tiwari provided an introduction to the following interactive session that exclusively focused on tips for acquiring grants from national and foreign agencies. After providing a brief introduction about the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, his entire talk was concluded on the need for an integrated approach to research and development of the nation.
The highlight of the program was Dr. Tiwari’s expert talk on “How to Write a Competitive Research Grant and Possible Funding Mechanism.” During his session, Dr. Tiwari provided deep insights into the intricacies of research grant applications, offering practical advice on proposal structuring, identifying potential funding sources, and aligning research with funding priorities. His talk emphasized the need for clarity, innovation, and strong evidence to secure research grants. Dr. Tiwari enlighten the educators to focus on collaborative approach in research and think out of the comfort zones of a person.
Following the expert talk, the program featured proposal presentations by faculty members and research scholars, where Dr. Tiwari critically evaluated the proposals, identifying strengths and areas for improvement. His feedback will significantly aid researchers in refining their proposals to enhance their success in securing grants.
The program was attended by Prof. Dr. Alfred J. Augustine, Dean of the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences & Research (AIMSR), Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan, Associate Dean of AIMSR, Deans of all Schools, Department heads, coordinators and students from various streams. Prof. Dr. K. Bhaskar Reddy, Dean, Apollo Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Dean in-charge, School of Health Sciences and, Dr. Praveen Hoogar, Research Coordinator, TAU played pivotal roles in ensuring the success of the program.
This visit and proposal presentations will be held for two days which will mark a significant step forward in TAU’s efforts to elevate its research landscape by equipping faculty and scholars with the tools needed to write competitive research grants. The initiative is expected to have a lasting impact on the quality of research proposals emerging from the university.
