IBM–Industry Learning Network Training Strengthens Future-Ready Skills

IBM–Industry Learning Network Training Strengthens Future-Ready Skills

The Apollo University successfully organized a four-day IBM–Industry Learning Network -SkillBuild Program, in collaboration with ICT Academy and IBM, from 26th to 29th November 2025. Designed to enhance the employability and technical capability of final-year students, the training focused on equipping learners with practical, industry-aligned competencies in Python programming and data analytics.

The initiative aimed at SoT students training them in analytics skills demanded by modern industries. A total of 64 final-year students enrolled and completed all the three phases of the training. The 3 phases of the training includes:

  • Phase 1 – Self-Learning: Completion of mandatory IBM SkillBuild online modules.
  • Phase 2 – Physical Training: Expert-led practical sessions delivered by ICT Academy.
  • Phase 3 – Assessment: Final evaluation conducted in TAU computer labs on 29 November 2025.

The three structured phases included self-learning modules on the IBM SkillBuild platform, instructor-led physical training by ICT Academy, and a final assessment conducted in the university's computer laboratories. The training ensured that students gained hands-on experience in Python programming, data structures, real-time analytics, file handling, and dataset processing, ultimately strengthening their employability potential.

The program began with an inaugural ceremony on 26 November 2025, graced by the presence of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Registrar Professor M. Potharaju, Special Guest Dr. Dinakar Reddy S. from ICT Academy, Controller of Examinations Prof. SethuramaSubbaiah, Dean of the School of Technology Dr. D. Jagadeeshan, faculty members, and the student participants.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat emphasized that in today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, skills—not degrees—determine a student's future. He explained that industries now seek job-ready graduates who possess not only knowledge but also hands-on experience, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities. He highlighted the importance of cultivating practical and industry-relevant competencies, modern digital and analytical skills, and exposure to global platforms like IBM SkillBuild. Dr. Bhat noted that collaborations with globally recognized organizations such as IBM create a vital bridge between academia and industry, giving students access to world-class tools, training resources, and opportunities that significantly enhance their career readiness.

The technical sessions throughout the four days were delivered by Mr. Pavan Kumar P., a certified technical trainer from ICT Academy. On the first day, students were introduced to Python programming, where they learned the fundamentals of syntax, basic coding logic, and essential data structures such as lists, tuples, sets, and dictionaries. The second day focused on file handling in Python and the foundational concepts of Python-based analytics, allowing students to understand how data is read, processed, and interpreted in real-world scenarios. On the third day, the trainer guided students through advanced analytics techniques, including the use of essential libraries for data manipulation and analysis, enabling them to work hands-on with datasets and understand practical applications of analytics in industry contexts. The fourth day was dedicated to the final assessment, during which students completed the mandatory evaluation under Phase 3, marking the finale of the IBM SkillBuild training pathway.

On the valedictory ceremony on 29th November, students expressed their appreciation for the practical, engaging, and industry-oriented nature of the training. Many shared that the program helped boost their confidence in coding, analytics, and problem-solving—skills essential for internships, placements, and professional growth. The faculty and resource team also commended the students for their active participation and successful completion of all learning phases.

Overall, the IBM SkillBuild Training Program proved to be a highly impactful initiative, significantly strengthening the students' technical capabilities and preparing them for technology-driven careers. The program enhanced students' competencies in Python and data analytics and paved way for a strong partnerships with esteemed organizations like ICT Academy and IBM, the university continues to create meaningful learning opportunities that align with global standards and empower students to meet the demands of the modern workforce. The leaders and administrators appreciated the efforts of the coordinators of the event, Dr Manju A. B., Assistant Professor and Deputy Controller of Examinations and Dr. Sangeetha S, Assistant Professor from School of Technology for organising and collaborating with IBM for offering a learning platform.
