VIVIDHA Turns Green as Eco Club Marks World Soil Day 2025

The Apollo University, Eco Club, successfully organized a the World Soil Day – 2025 celebration on 6th December 2025 at the Marigold Garden and surrounding green zones of the Vividha campus block. The event, aligned with the global theme “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities,” was held at 2:30 PM at the Vividha Block and witnessed passionate participation from students, faculty members, and staff from various schools and clubs of the university.

The programme was graced by the esteemed presence of Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar, The Apollo University, as the Chief Guest. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by the Eco Club Coordinator and Faculty, SoT, Dr. Feroz Begam, other faculty members, and student volunteers. The event began with a brief introduction to the importance of World Soil Day followed by remarks from the Eco Club team on the significance of soil conservation, urban biodiversity, and sustainable campus ecosystems.

In his address, Prof. Potharaju emphasized the vital role of youth in environmental protection and community-driven ecological initiatives. He highlighted how soil health forms the foundation of a sustainable future, influencing food security, climate resilience, and the overall well-being of urban environments. He appreciated the Eco Club for consistently driving eco-conscious initiatives at TAU and encouraged students to actively participate in greening activities and nature-positive actions throughout the year.

Following his inspiring message, the Chief Guest officially inaugurated the Plantation Drive by planting a sapling at the Marigold Garden. Students and faculty members then spread out across the designated plantation zones—including the Flower Garden and adjoining green patches—to plant 50 number of flowering plants and saplings. The atmosphere was lively and engaging, with students joyfully digging pits, planting saplings, watering the plants, and working collaboratively to beautify the campus. Faculty mentors guided the students on proper planting techniques, nurturing practices, and long-term care for sapling growth.

Throughout the activity, there was a palpable energy among the participants as they engaged hands-on with the soil, demonstrating strong commitment to environmental stewardship. The Eco Club Coordinator, Dr. S. Firoz Begum, along with faculty volunteers, supervised the plantation process, ensuring smooth execution and active involvement of every participant. The programme not only promoted greenery but also created awareness about soil conservation, waste-free surroundings, and the collective responsibility of maintaining a clean, green, and eco-friendly campus.

The event concluded with words of appreciation from the Eco Club team, thanking the Chief Guest, faculty members, housekeeping staff, and the enthusiastic student volunteers for making the drive a grand success. The activity significantly contributed to the university’s ongoing efforts toward ecological sustainability and reinforced the importance of nurturing healthy soils as a cornerstone of urban environmental health.

With excellent participation and impactful outreach, the World Soil Day 2025 Plantation Drive at The Apollo University stands out as a meaningful and successful initiative dedicated to environmental consciousness, student engagement, and sustainable campus development.
