The Apollo University Celebrates World Theatre Day with Enthralling Performances

The Apollo University’s Arts and Cultural Club marked World Theatre Day with a vibrant celebration, bringing the spirit of theatre to life through multiple role plays and adaptations that captivated the audience. The event, held on campus, showcased students’ talent as they recreated the essence of theatre through engaging performances.
The celebration was graced by The Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat as the Chief Guest, who reminisced about his childhood enthusiasm for theatre, recalling how he eagerly participated in his first audition. Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, Professor & CoE, the Guest of Honor, shared his personal experiences of growing up with theatre in Tamil Nadu. He emphasized how theatre played a pivotal role in cultural and social change, making it an influential medium of storytelling and reform.
Adding depth to the discussion, Dr. Bhat spoke about the enduring power of theatrical plays, citing the example of The Mousetrap, Agatha Christie’s iconic murder mystery that has been continuously performed even today in UK, since its first performance at London’s West End in 1952. He highlighted that theatre remains an undying form of expression, a powerful tool for communication, and an inspiration for generations. He encouraged students to involve theatre professionally, as it is not only a form of entertainment but also an art that transcends time, emotions, cultures, and moreover a representation of self.
The vibrant celebrations brought the spirit of theatre to life through captivating performances and role adaptations that showcased the timeless essence of the art form. The event featured two remarkable performances. Sukhi Mantena, a student from the Department of Clinical Psychology, mesmerized the audience with a recreation of the story and life of legendary actress Savitri, bringing emotions and history to the stage. S. Harsha Vardhan, from CSE (AI & DS-C), School of Technology, delivered a powerful monoact performance, showcasing the depth and impact of solo theatrical storytelling.
The event was successfully coordinated by Mr. V. Daniel, Assistant Professor and Faculty Coordinator of the Arts and Cultural Club, along with Ms. Bhagyashree Mishra, Lecturer and Faculty Coordinator from the School of Health Sciences. Their dedication ensured a seamless and engaging celebration that left a lasting impact on the participants. The event concluded with an overwhelming response from students and faculty, with timeless art of performances.
