University of Leicester Brings UK Degree to Andhra Pradesh: Pro Vice-Chancellor’s Visit Advances Landmark Partnership in Education and AI Research with The Apollo University

14th March, 2026 | The Apollo University, Chittoor

Professor Thompson Robinson, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Head of College and Dean of Medicine at the University of Leicester (UoL), United Kingdom, visited The Apollo University (TAU) in Chittoor on 14th March, 2026. The visit marks a significant milestone in the academic collaboration between the two universities — and comes at a time when students in Andhra Pradesh can directly benefit from what this partnership has to offer: a University of Leicester degree, earned in part right here in Chittoor.

During his visit, Professor Robinson met with Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of TAU, along with senior leadership, faculty from the School of Technology, and students currently enrolled in the program. Discussions covered academic progress, curriculum development, future joint programs, student progression pathways, and research collaborations — reflecting the depth and ambition of the TAU–UoL partnership.

At the heart of this collaboration is the 2+1 international pathway program, currently offered in BEng Computer Science and BBA. Students complete two years at TAU in Chittoor and their final year at the University of Leicester’s campus in the United Kingdom, graduating with a fully recognised University of Leicester degree — one that carries the same standing as any degree earned on campus in the UK.

The BEng Computer Science program equips students with expertise in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and modern computing. The BBA program prepares students for global business careers with a curriculum designed to meet international standards. Both programs are structured to prepare graduates for careers in their respective fields in India and globally. Professor Robinson’s engagement with faculty from the School of Technology and the School of Management during the visit reflects UoL’s ongoing commitment to ensuring both programs remain rigorous and current.

Professor Robinson’s visit also included discussions on the Centre for Digital Health and Precision Medicine (CDHPM) — a joint research initiative between TAU, Apollo Hospitals, and the University of Leicester. The Centre operates from two locations: Chittoor and the British Heart Foundation Cardiovascular Research Centre at UoL. It brings together expertise in healthcare, technology, and data science to advance work in digital health, AI, and precision medicine, and is currently engaged in active real-time healthcare and AI projects.
