Clean, Green, and United: The Apollo Knowledge City’s Multi-Club Campaign Sets New Benchmarks for Swatchhata Hi Seva Campaign

The Apollo Knowledge City Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign in align with the Central Government Swatch Bharat Mission was successfully conducted from 20th September to 04th October 2025 at the campus. Led by the NSS units of The Apollo University, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), and Apollo College of Nursing (ACoN), the campaign was a collaborative effort involving NSS units, faculty coordinators, student clubs, and administrative teams. The initiative aligned with the national Swachhata Hi Seva movement and aimed to promote environmental consciousness, weeding of the records, digital hygiene, and community engagement across institutional and public spaces.

The campaign commenced with a Plantation Drive at the Vividha Block on 20 September, organized by the NSS and Eco Club. This was followed by a continuous digital documentation and reporting effort on the UGC portal, overseen by Dr. Hemadri, NSS Nodal Officer. From 24 to 30 September, hostel cleanliness activities were carried out under the supervision of the DGM Facilities Mr. Appurao and Hostel Faculty Coordinators, ensuring hygienic living conditions for residents. On 3rd October, a public Cleanliness Drive was organized at District Headquarters Hospital, Chittoor, engaging with the local community in sanitation efforts.

On 25th September, an E-Waste Collection Drive was launched to promote responsible disposal of electronic waste, coordinated by Dr. Divya A, Faculty Coordinator, Social Responsibility Club and Dr. Hima Bindu, Deputy Director, ICT. A week long, health check-ups and distribution of protective gear were arranged for housekeeping staffs at the campus health clinic, focusing to staff welfare. A series of events were held on 27 September, including a Fruit Garden setup through plantation at Vividha, screening of a documentary showcasing the 2024 cleanliness efforts, and a campus-wide Cleanliness Pledge led by all club faculty coordinators during club hours.

Between 27 and 30 September, departments undertook record weeding and digital decluttering activities. Faculty participated in “Clean Your Desktop Day,” led by student interns of Directorate of ICT, promoting organized digital workspaces. On 28 September, a massive plantation drive was conducted with support from the NSS team of all the institutions at Vividha –the student affairs block. On 29 September, the NSS units adopted specific campus zones for upkeep in the Ooty Cafe, and also students participated in a creative competition transforming trash into art, coordinated by the Craft Club of The Apollo University.

The Green Classroom Challenge on 30th September encouraged departments to maintain dust-free, plastic-free classrooms adorned with clean classrooms, for sustainable practices. On 01st October, a Swachhata-themed flash mob was performed at Children’s Park, Chittoor. The campaign concluded on 03rd October with a valedictory ceremony graced by Dr. H Vinod Bhat, The Vice Chancellor, The Apollo University, Dr. M. Potharaju, Registrar, The Apollo University, and Dr. Alfred J Augustine, Dean, AIMSR. Dr. Hemadri Reddy, NSS Programme Coordinator, Mr. Daniel V, Faculty Coordinator, Arts and Cultural Club, Ms. A Gayathri, NSS Programme officer, and Mr. Haemchander, FC, Theatre and Drama Club coordinated the valedictory function and recognizing the contributions of all participants . A powerful skit was also performed by the Theatre and Drama Club members and enlightened the students the necessity to have a cleaner environment around them.

Overall, the AKC Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign illustrated the dedication of the campus to clean India campaign and a commitment to its community outreach. The coordinated efforts across departments and clubs enhanced campus infrastructure and instilled a culture of cleanliness and accountability among students and staff.
