Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign Gains Momentum: 30 Saplings Planted at Vividha

The Apollo University undertook a lead in transformative Plantation Drive conducted at AKC on 27th September 2025, led by the NSS Unit and the Eco Club. This campaign was not merely an act of planting trees instead; it was an expression of the ecological consciousness, and institutional commitment to sustainable development goals in association with the national environment mission.
The Apollo University at the Apollo Knowledge City, took lead in launching a comprehensive campus-wide Tree Plantation Drive from 23rd September to 4th October 2025, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, civic responsibility, and community engagement. As part of this larger campaign, a focused plantation activity was conducted on the grounds of Vividha – the Student Affairs Block, marking a significant contribution to the university’s green mission.
On this particular day of the campaign, a total of 30 saplings were planted in the Vividha premises, comprising:10 Coconut plants, 10 Musambi (Sweet Lime) plants, and 10 Lemon plants. These selections were made based on their ecological value, adaptability to the local climate, long-term utility for the campus environment and also as part of the initiative of converting Vividha in to a space for flower garden and fruit bearing tress. The plantation activity was inaugurated by Prof. M. Potharaju, the Registrar of The Apollo University, whose presence underscored the student-led initiatives. His address to the gathering emphasized the importance of integrating environmental consciousness into everyday academic life and encouraged students to take ownership of green practices.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 100 students representing various departments across The Apollo University and the College of Nursing. These students joined hands with NSS volunteers and Eco Club members, demonstrating a strong spirit of collaboration and shared purpose. Their involvement was an awareness of ecological responsibility and the role of youth in shaping a sustainable future.
Special mention is due to Dr. S. S. Shani, Assistant Director, Directorate of Student Affairs, whose active coordination and personal participation greatly contributed to the success of the event. Her leadership and hands-on engagement served as a powerful example to students and staff alike, reinforcing the values of service, stewardship, and institutional pride.
The event was further strengthened by the dedicated efforts of key coordinators and faculty members: Dr. S. Hemadri Reddy Salla, NSS Programme Coordinator, whose strategic oversight ensured smooth execution and Dr. Shaik Jakeer and Ms. A. Gayathri, NSS Officers, who mobilized volunteers and facilitated logistics. Dr. S. Feroz Begum, Eco Club Faculty Coordinator, guided the selection of plant species and ecological planning and Prof. Leelavathi, NSS Coordinator and Faculty of Nursing, inspired nursing students to participate actively. Each sapling was planted with care and assigned to a student volunteer for ongoing maintenance, nurturing a sense of personal responsibility and long-term engagement.
The event also served as a platform for experiential learning, where students gained practical insights into soil preparation, plant care, and the broader implications of afforestation. Faculty members and administrative staff joined the students in planting and watering the saplings, symbolizing a unified institutional effort. The Apollo Knowledge City looks forward to nurturing these saplings into thriving trees and continuing its journey toward a greener, cleaner, and more responsible future.
