A Day When the Library Spoke Louder Than Words

The Apollo University came alive with a purposeful gathering to mark National Librarian’s Day. The event, jointly organised by the Reader’s Club, was designed to honour the vital role libraries play in academic growth and lifelong learning.

Coordinated by the Readers Club led by Dr. B. Nageswara Rao, Faculty Coordinator, and Assistant Professor, SoT, the celebration brought together faculty members, students, and staff in a setting that was warm, focused, and collaborative.

The programme was graced by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, as the Chief Guest. Also present were Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar, and Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Dean, School of Technology, along with faculty, staff, and students.

In his address, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat encouraged the university community to make the fullest use of the facilities available in the campus library, and also to actively engage with public resources such as the Chittoor Public Library. He transported the audience on a global journey of libraries—from the historic treasures of Morocco to the grand reading halls of England, and to the Paris Library that represents modernity and cultural depth.

He reminded everyone that libraries are no longer just silent halls for solitary reading; they are dynamic spaces of debate, discussion, creativity, and collaboration. He painted vivid images of libraries around the world where students study through the night, where cozy reading lounges mimic the warmth of home, and where readers can even book small beds to prepare for important examinations.

His message was clear: a library is not merely a storehouse of books—it is a living, breathing hub of intellectual exchange and personal growth. By embracing the modern concept of libraries, universities can inspire not only academic excellence but also a vibrant culture of curiosity and innovation.

The celebration also contained lively student interactions, where participants shared their observations of the TAU Library—highlighting its strengths such as accessibility, supportive staff, and digital resources, while also candidly pointing out areas for improvement. Their reflections added authenticity and a student-centric perspective to the event. Adding to this, Dr. Manju A. B., Deputy Controller of Examinations and faculty member of SoT, spoke eloquently about the University’s Digital Library, describing it as a gateway that connects the world’s knowledge to the fingertips of every learner. She focused on how digital platforms are expanding horizons, breaking barriers of geography, and enabling students to access global resources anytime, anywhere. Dr. T. Raghunadha Reddy, Assistant Librarian, of the University also participated in the event.

When the event concluded, the library didn’t slip back into its usual silence. Instead, it hummed—quietly, invisibly—with new energy. Students lingered a little longer by the bookshelves. Faculty exchanged ideas about reading spaces. It felt as though the very walls had absorbed the Vice Chancellor’s words and were ready to give them back, one inspired visitor at a time. And so, on this National Librarian’s Day, The Apollo University did not just remember its library—it gave it a new story to tell.
