AI Horizons Expand as The Apollo University Launches FDP on Generative AI
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, School of Technology, The Apollo University, successfully inaugurated a Five-Day Virtual Faculty Development Program (FDP) on “Generative AI” on 11th August 2025, marking a significant stride in encouraging innovation and digital competence in higher education.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by Dr. A. B. Manju, Deputy Controller of Examination and Faculty, SoT, who set the tone for an engaging and intellectually enriching week ahead. She emphasized the timeliness of the topic, given Generative AI’s rapid rise as a transformative force across industries, academia, and research.
FDP Coordinator, Dr. G. B. Hima Bindu, and Deputy Director for Information and communication Technology, presented the objectives of the program, underlining the need to equip faculty members with both conceptual understanding and practical skills in Generative AI. She explained how the sessions are designed to bridge the gap between emerging technology trends and their classroom applications, thereby preparing educators to guide the next generation of AI innovators.
The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, delivered the inaugural address as the Chief Guest, underscoring the vital role of AI literacy in contemporary academia. He reflected on how educators today are not just knowledge transmitters but also innovation enablers, shaping how technology impacts society. He praised the School of Technology for its initiative, calling the FDP a platform that goes beyond technical training to ignite curiosity, encourage cross-disciplinary collaboration, and nurture socially responsible AI applications. He reminded the audience that “technology becomes truly transformative only when it serves humanity with responsibility and purpose.”
The Guest of Honor, Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar of The Apollo University, commended the program as a forward-thinking step in enhancing the university’s research capabilities. The Resource Person, Mr. Raghavendra Swamy K., Senior Technical Corporate Trainer, Hyderabad, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming sessions, assuring participants of an interactive and hands-on experience. He briefly outlined the week’s agenda, which includes deep dives into Generative AI concepts, real-world applications, and practical tool demonstrations, ensuring that participants can translate knowledge into action.
A special acknowledgment was extended to Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Professor and Dean, School of Technology, whose encouragement to embrace innovative technologies like Generative AI and integrate them into both teaching and research practices resonated strongly with the participants, setting a tone of curiosity, collaboration, and forward-thinking for the entire program. The five-day FDP, scheduled from 11th to 15th August 2025, will offer two hours of focused learning each day. It aims to empower faculty members to harness Generative AI not only for academic excellence but also to foster creativity, problem-solving, and innovation in their students.
