Renowned Medical Scientist Prof. N. K. Ganguly visits Apollo Knowledge City

Chittoor, February 10: Eminent medical scientist and Padma Vibhushan awardee Prof. N. K. Ganguly visited Apollo Knowledge City on Tuesday and conducted a comprehensive review of its research programmes.

As part of the visit, the Vice-Chancellor of The Apollo University, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, delivered the opening remarks and highlighted the growth and vision of the campus. He noted that student strength has increased from about 2,000 to 5,500 and that the campus has infrastructure and facilities to support 8,000 to 9,000 students. He also spoke about the university’s linkages with collaborations with the University of Leicester, the UK.

Presentations on research activities were made by Dr. Satyanarayana and Dr. Lokesh Ravi from the School of Biomedical Sciences, followed by detailed discussions with faculty members on future research directions, innovation, and alignment with global standards. An interaction session was also held with the Nursing College faculty under the leadership of Principal Dr. Jayanthi.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. Ganguly emphasized the need to enhance quality in medical education, strengthen systems in line with international benchmarks, and promote independent research ownership. He underlined the importance of emerging areas such as regenerative medicine, regular industry partnerships, strong postgraduate programmes, and greater emphasis on PhD training. He also stressed the role of mentorship in nurturing young faculty members and ensuring that research outcomes translate into societal benefit.

An interactive session was later held with researchers of Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), Chittoor, under the leadership of Associate Dean (Research) Dr. Usha Adiga, with participation from FRF–AIMSR researchers. Prof. Ganguly also held a separate meeting with Vice-Chancellor Dr. Vinod Bhat to discuss alignment of initiatives between Apollo Health Education and Research Foundation (AHERF), Chennai and AHERF, Hyderabad.

During the visit, Prof. Ganguly toured the Central Research Laboratory as well as the Genomics and Informatics Research Laboratory at AIMSR, where faculty from the Department of Biochemistry, led by Dr. Vasishta, briefed him on ongoing research activities. He later visited the Aragonda Total Health Centre, accompanied DHH MS Dr. Ranganath.

Registrar Prof. M. Potharaju, AIMSR Dean Dr. Alfred J. Augustine, heads of departments, and faculty members participated in the program. The overall coordination of the visit was carried out by Associate Dean, AIMSR, Prof. Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan.

Organizers’ said that Prof. Ganguly’s visit would further strengthen Apollo Knowledge City’s research ecosystem and provide strategic direction for its future growth.
