India Must Emerge as a Global Healthcare Destination: Dr. Prathap C. Reddy

Speaks at AIMSR Graduation Day–2026 Chittoor, February 20: Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder & Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group and Chancellor of The Apollo University, stated that Apollo is committed to transforming India into a global healthcare destination. He was speaking as the Chief Guest at the Graduation Day–2026 ceremony of Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), held on Friday evening at the Apollo Knowledge City campus, Murukambattu. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Reddy emphasized that the medical profession carries immense responsibility and urged young doctors to serve patients with compassion, dedication, and ethical commitment. He expressed pride that a large number of skilled medical professionals graduate from Apollo institutions every year. He noted that Apollo has been continuously striving to build world-class healthcare infrastructure in India. He recalled that the country’s first CT scanner was installed at Apollo Hospitals and stated that more than 2,000 CT scanners are currently operational across Apollo facilities nationwide. He highlighted Apollo’s leadership in introducing advanced medical technologies in India. Dr. Reddy said Apollo is moving forward with the vision of positioning India as a global healthcare hub through initiatives such as “Heal in India,” “Heal the World,” and “Heal by India.” He also stressed the need to strengthen the healthcare ecosystem in view of the shortage of doctors, healthcare workers, and technicians in the country. Speaking on the future of medicine, he observed that technological innovations, especially artificial intelligence, are rapidly transforming healthcare delivery. He advised young doctors to effectively utilize technology while maintaining a patient-centric approach. He called upon them to uphold ethical values, service orientation, and a strong research mindset. Dr. Pulala Chandrasekhar, Vice Chancellor of Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences, who attended as Guest of Honour, said that clinical competence, compassionate service, and lifelong learning are the three pillars of a successful medical career. He urged young doctors to play a key role in addressing public health challenges and ensuring equitable healthcare access. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals; Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, The Apollo University; Dr. Ravi Raju Tatapudi, Pro-Chancellor; and Mr. V. Sivarama Krishnan, CEO, Apollo Knowledge City. AIMSR Dean Dr. Alfred J. Augustine congratulated the graduates and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to skill-based medical education, innovation in research, and socially responsible healthcare. Associate Deans Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan and Dr. Usha Adiga highlighted academic achievements and research progress. Medical Superintendent Dr. Ranganath B.G. and Unit Head Dr. S. Balaraj appreciated the discipline, service orientation, and dedication displayed by students during internship and postgraduate training. Heads of departments, faculty members, parents, and well-wishers attended in large numbers. A total of 16 postgraduates and 166 interns received their degrees during the ceremony. The graduates also took the professional oath, reaffirming their commitment to medical ethics and patient welfare.
