The Apollo University Celebrates United Nations Day for Global Peace and Cooperation

On October 24, 2024, The Apollo University marked United Nations Day with an insightful event organized by The Apollo Model UN Club, celebrating the prevention of conflict, help parties in conflict make peace, and create conditions for peace. This significant day serves as a reminder of the vital role the United Nations (UN) plays in bridging gaps to achieve international peace and security, while also celebrating humanity’s collective efforts to live freely and harmoniously.

The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, presided over the event, taking the audience on a historical journey from the aftermath of World War I to the establishment of the UN. He provided a thorough analysis of ongoing global conflicts, including the tensions in Gaza, Europe, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, drawing attention to the critical role of the UN in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. By discussing case studies like the Treaty of Versailles and the engagements of the League of Nations, Dr. Bhat underscored the devastating human tolls of the two World Wars, leading into the setting of the platform for the expert talk on role of UN in modern humanitarian crises. His address concluded with a call for student participation in peace-building initiatives, particularly in fostering global collaborations and mobility to encourage the prevalence of peace.

The event’s chief guest, Mr. N.B. Harshavardhan Reddy, National Vice President of Junior Chamber International, shared his extensive global experiences. Having participated in numerous UN activities and conferences, Mr. Reddy emphasized the importance of maintaining internal peace in individuals as a foundation for broader social responsibility and the resolution of global crises. His address inspired students to reflect on the need for outreach and active participation in international dialogue to address the world’s pressing conflicts.

The event concluded with an interactive session where students engaged in meaningful discussions with the chief guest, exploring various global challenges and the role of international cooperation in addressing them. The celebration was made successful through the support of The Apollo University Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, and the dedicated efforts of Dr. Sudha Paipuru, Assistant Professor of the School of Health Sciences, who played a pivotal role in organizing and ensuring the event’s impact. Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, the Controller of Examinations also took part in the event actively.

The observance of United Nations Day at The Apollo University not only highlighted the importance of peace and global unity but also empowered club members and students to become ambassadors of international cooperation and social responsibility.
