Special Lecture on World Patient Safety Day, 2024 at The Apollo University”
School of Management at The Apollo University in Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh, hosted a special lecture in observance of World Patient Safety Day on September 17, 2024 (Tuesday). The event featured Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, as the chief guest. In his address, Dr. Bhat emphasized the critical importance of patient safety within the healthcare system.
Prof. Dr. Alfred J. Augustine, Dean of Apollo Medical College, was one of the key speakers and elaborated on the crucial role of accurate diagnosis in ensuring patient safety. He shared his personal experiences and practical examples to enhance the participants’ understanding and awareness of this vital aspect of healthcare. Another key speaker Dr. Ramya Ramakrishnan, Associate Dean, provided an overview of patient safety concepts and the International Patient Safety Goals, enriching the discussion with her expertise.
Additionally, Dr. Ramaiah, Dean of the School of Management, highlighted the economic impact of patient harm, referencing WHO data that suggests patient harm could reduce global economic growth by 0.7% annually. He pointed out that investing in patient safety not only leads to significant financial savings but also results in better patient outcomes.
The event was well-attended by the students from diverse fields, including medicine, hospital and healthcare management, health sciences, pharmacy, nursing, and technology, as well as Prof. Potha raju, University Registrar, Naresh Kumar Reddy, COO of Apollo Knowledge City, along with Deans, Heads of Departments, and faculty members.”
