The Directorate of Student Affairs hosted the 80th Independence Day celebrations on 15th August 2026 at the Apollo Knowledge City (AKC) Ground, bringing together the constituent institutions of The Apollo University (TAU), the Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), and the Apollo College of Nursing (ACON). Centered around the strategic vision "Apollo for India," the event served as a unified platform for students, faculty, and administrative staff to reflect on India’s democratic legacy, reinforce institutional values of national service, and celebrate collective progress.
The formal proceedings began at 8:00 AM with the reception of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M. Nagarkar and Mrs. Anu Nagarkar. Demonstrating the institution's commitment to environmental responsibility, National Service Scheme (NSS) student volunteers welcomed the dignitaries with eco-friendly saplings and national badges. The University’s security detachment accorded a traditional Guard of Honour, after which the Vice Chancellor extended special recognition to veteran security guard Mr. Reddappa, presenting him with a commemorative gift in honor of his faithful service. The Vice Chancellor then unfurled the National Tricolour, which was followed by the National Anthem, filling the atmosphere with pride, and respect, for the nation. The ceremony served as a reminder of the sacrifices made by countless freedom fighters and the collective responsibility of students and youth in contributing to the progress of the country.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Nitin M. Nagarkar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, The Apollo University, reflected on the deeper meaning of freedom and the responsibilities it places on the younger generation. He emphasised that true independence today means ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare and education, extending technology and innovation to every section of society, and transforming knowledge into social progress. Highlighting India’s journey towards Viksit Bharat @2047, he underscored the pivotal role of youth in shaping the nation’s future and encouraged students to embrace interdisciplinary learning, innovation, ethics, compassion and social responsibility. He urged the students to measure success not merely by professional designations or financial achievements, but by the positive difference they make in the lives of others, reminding them that “India’s future will not happen to us. We will build it with our hands, minds, courage and with our hearts.”
The cultural segment of the programme showcased the creativity and patriotic spirit of students across Apollo Knowledge City. A thought-provoking student speech by Mr. Prateesh student from AIMSR reflected on the significance of India’s freedom and the responsibilities of the younger generation. Students of The Apollo University presented vibrant dance and musical performances, celebrating the cultural diversity and unity of the nation. The Fine Arts Club organized a face painting activity, while students from Apollo College of Nursing (ACON) enthralled the audience with a patriotic dance and an impressive human pyramid formation, symbolising teamwork, dedication, and national pride.
A special attraction of the event was the Human Flag Formation – “Apollo for India,” where students came together to create a magnificent representation of the Indian Tricolour. The formation symbolised unity, collective responsibility, and the commitment of the Apollo community towards the progress and prosperity of the nation. The 80th Independence Day celebration concluded on a spirited and memorable note, reflecting the enthusiasm, discipline, and patriotic fervour of leaders, administrators, heads, faculties, staff and students.
