Apollo University Leads the Way in Green Initiatives with Special Swachhata Campaign and Tree Plantation Drive

The Apollo Knowledge City successfully conducted a Plantation Drive in association with the Eco Club and NSS Wings as part of the Special Campaign 4.0 for Swachhata, an initiative by the Government of India to promote cleanliness and environmental sustainability across Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).
The event was organised on the Apollo Knowledge City campus under the guidance and supervision of the Honourable Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, in coordination with The Apollo University, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Apollo College of Nursing, Chittoor and Apollo College of Physiotherapy, Chittoor. The programme saw enthusiastic participation from more than 100 students, including residents from both boys’ and girls’ hostels. A total of 75 saplings were planted across the campus, marking a significant step toward enhancing the green cover and promoting eco-friendly practices.
As part of the central theme of Minimising Pendency in all Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across India, following the tree plantation, a Clean Campus Drive was conducted to collect plastic waste and garbage from selected areas on campus, emphasising the university’s commitment to creating a clean and healthy learning environment. Registrar Prof. Potharaju appreciated the efforts of the participants, emphasising the importance of maintaining eco-friendly practices on campus and encouraging students to extend this initiative to their hometowns and surrounding neighbourhoods.
The 75 saplings were planted by hostel residents near the New Deluxe Hostel and the Vice Chancellor’s residence, with groups of students actively participating.

Along with the Registrar, Prof. Sethurama Subbaiah, Controller of Examinations; Dr. Ramya Rama Krishnan, Associate Dean, AIMSR; Dr. Kiran Kumar, Principal, Apollo College of Physiotherapy; Dr. Ithumalla Ramaiah, Dean, School of Management; Dr. PM Ashok Reddy, Assistant Professor (AHS) – NSS Officer; Dr. S. Feroz Begum, Assistant Professor – Eco Club Coordinator; and Mrs. C. Shilpa, Associate Professor, Apollo College of Nursing, were also present at the event.
