ANESCARE 2026: Apollo University Celebrates Anesthesia Day with “Where Sleep Meets Safety

The Apollo University, Chittoor, celebrated ANESCARE 2026, its Anesthesia Day, on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. The event was organised by the Department of Anesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology, Division of Allied Health Sciences. It was held under the theme “Where Sleep Meets Safety,” which pointed to the central role anesthesiologists play in keeping patients safe during surgery and emergency care.

The programme aimed to highlight the vital role of anesthesiologists in patient safety and quality healthcare. It also sought to bring out the importance of emergency medical care and recent advances in anesthesia practice. The university used the occasion as an academic platform to promote awareness, clinical learning and professional engagement among students and faculty.

The celebrations began with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Mr. S. Anil Kumar, Registrar of The Apollo University. The lamp-lighting set a formal and respectful tone for the day and marked the start of the academic programme. The academic sessions were the core of the event, and both speakers came from the Department of Anesthesiology, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (AIMSR), Chittoor. This brought practising clinical faculty into direct contact with the university’s students.

Dr. G. Surekha, Associate Professor, delivered a lecture on “Anesthesia Services Outside the Operating Theatre.” Her session drew attention to the fact that anesthesia care extends beyond the operating room, into settings where patients also need safe and skilled support. Dr. Anil Babu Swarna, Associate Professor from the same department, spoke on “Difficult Airway Management.” His session covered one of the most demanding areas of anesthesia practice, where quick recognition and careful handling are essential for patient safety.

Both sessions focused on identifying challenging clinical situations in anesthesia practice and on the approaches needed to manage them effectively. A common message ran through them: preparedness and clinical expertise are central to patient care. For students of Allied Health Sciences, particularly those in Anesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology, this gave direct exposure to real clinical thinking.

Alongside the academic sessions, the programme included a Talent Arena, where students showed their abilities through various cultural performances. This gave students a chance to take part beyond the lecture hall and added a creative and celebratory side to the day. It also reflected the university’s approach of supporting both academic and personal growth. Certificates of appreciation were presented to the two guest speakers, Dr. G. Surekha and Dr. Anil Babu Swarna, in recognition of their valuable contributions to the programme. This acknowledged their time and expertise and strengthened the academic link between the university and the clinical faculty of AIMSR.

The event was attended by Prof. Ramesh S. Ve., Dean, School of Health Sciences; Dr. Dr Ramaiah Itumalla, Dean, School of Management; and Dr. Chandra Sekhar Priyanka, Head (i/c), Allied Health Sciences. The programme was run by a dedicated organising team. Ms. Preethi P. served as the Organizing Secretary, with Ms. Anitha G. and Mr. Sameer Ahmad Mir as Joint Organizing Secretaries. Ms. Subhashree K., Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technology, School of Health Sciences, served as the Workshop Facilitator. A large number of students and faculty members took part in the celebrations, which reflected strong interest in the subject and good engagement across the Allied Health Sciences community.
