Health psychology is the study of psychological and behavioural processes in health, illness, and healthcare. It is concerned with understanding how psychological, behavioural, and socio-cultural factors contribute to physical and mental health, as well as illness.
Health psychology, often referred to as behavioural medicine or medical psychology, is the application of psychological theory to health-related practices. The field of health psychology includes two subfields. Behavioural health focuses on the prevention of health problems and illnesses, while behavioural medicine focuses on treatment. Health psychology is concerned with the psychology of a range of health-related behaviours, including nutrition, exercise, healthcare utilisation, medical decision-making, as well as lifestyle.
