From Ideas to Assets TAU Hosts Intellectual Property Awareness Day

The Media Club of The Apollo University, Chittoor, successfully organized the Intellectual Property Day celebration on Saturday, 26th April 2025, at the Dr. Prathap C Reddy Knowledge Center. The event aimed to raise awareness among students and faculty members about the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) in academic, research, and creative pursuits.
The program was inaugurated by the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Dr. H Vinod Bhat. In his inspiring address, Dr. Bhat emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual creations and sensitized students about the rights associated with intellectual properties, including copyrights. He highlighted the celebrations and initiatives undertaken by the Readers Club and urged students days back to recognize the value of safeguarding their ideas on World Books and Copyright Day celebration.
Dr. Bhat also discussed the need for streamlining the patent grant process to minimize delays and promote quick turnaround times. Through references to great inventors and innovators, he elaborated on what qualifies as patentable knowledge versus common knowledge and how innovative ideas can be nurtured into entrepreneurial ventures. He stressed that intellectual property protection is not just a legal right but also a form of security for innovators.
Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar, The Apollo University, also graced the event, expressing wholehearted support for student-driven clubs and initiatives like the Media Club’s observance of important academic days. The keynote session was delivered by Mrs. M Aparnaa, an esteemed advocate and legal expert in Intellectual Property Rights from Bengaluru. She offered an in-depth perspective on the significance of IPR, the essentials of patent filing procedures, and the broader role of IPR in advancing innovation, discoveries and scientific research.
Building on Dr. Bhat’s points regarding the patent allocation timeframe, Mrs. Aparnaa explained the necessary processes and documentation involved, shedding light on why thoroughness often leads to longer timelines in granting patents.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. Sethurama Subbaiah, Controller of Examinations, and Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Director, IQAC & Dean, School of Technology, along with faculty members and enthusiastic students. Dr. Shaik Jakeer, Assistant Professor, School of Technology, and Faculty Coordinator of the Media Club, along with his dedicated team of student volunteers, organized the event, successfully enlightening the participants on the significance of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR). The event was an enriching experience for the attendees, particularly for budding student innovators, faculty members, and club representatives who aspire to secure their creative outputs.
