The Apollo University Takes Bold Steps Toward a Greener Future with NSS Tree Plantation and Clean Drive

overview
In a powerful demonstration of commitment to sustainability and community service, The Apollo University’s National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit 1 and Unit 2 organized a Tree Plantation and Clean Drive on 27th April 2025 at the Deluxe Hostel Block D and E. The event served as a reminder of the importance of working together for a more sustainable and eco-conscious tomorrow by stirring a collective spirit of responsibility among the students.
The initiative was graced by Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor of The Apollo University, as the Chief Guest and Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar, as the Guest of Honor, whose presence inspired both the students and the entire NSS community. Their participation highlighted the importance of sustainable practices and the significant role everyone plays in environmental conservation.
A vibrant group of over 100 students came together to make a tangible impact on the campus environment by planting 85 saplings across three different varieties. The volunteers planted a variety of saplings, symbolizing a strong allegiance to increasing the green cover, while also cleaning the surrounding areas, sending a prevailing message about the importance of maintaining a clean, sustainable campus.
The event started in the early morning with an engaging inauguration, where Dr. H. Vinod Bhat addressed the students and inspired them to think beyond the classroom and into the world around them. He emphasized how sustainable practices are an integral part of education and how universities must lead by example in nurturing both knowledge and the eco system. The Vice Chancellor’s message was clear as he emphasized that planting trees is not just a responsibility but preserving them is a practice that helps build a legacy.
Prof. M. Potharaju also shared his appreciation for the NSS volunteers, praising their efforts to service and encouraging them to continue such impactful initiatives. He motivated the students by suggesting that such off-day campus outreaches should be seen as a picnic, encouraging them to enjoy the beauty of the place while also extending their service and care for nature. His words reminded the students that every small action counts when it comes to creating positive change, whether it’s through planting a tree, taking care of its growth or maintaining a cleaner environment.
The NSS Tree Plantation and Clean Drive highlighted how small, consistent efforts can lead to significant change, especially when driven by a collective spirit. The faculties, students and staffs of the university wholeheartedly came together for the initiative to serve the ecosystem and to bring up a green and clean campus.
The leadership of Dr. S. Hemadri Reddy Salla, NSS Programme Coordinator and Associate Professor, School of Health Sciences, along with and Ms. A. Gayathri, Lecturer, School of Health Sciences, NSS Programme Officers, made the day engaging, service-oriented, and truly meaningful. The end of the drive reminded everyone that a better future is within reach when we unite for a common cause.
