World TB Day Observance at The Apollo University, Chittoor, AP

The School of Management, in collaboration with the Public Health Program, at The Apollo University observed World TB Day 2025 with an insightful invited lecture. The event, held on 24th March 2025, focused on raising awareness about tuberculosis (TB) and equipping students with essential healthcare management and public health skills.
The lecture was graced by the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, who emphasized India’s progress in TB control, recalling that while India accounts for about 25% of global TB burden, with an estimated TB incidence of 2.77 million in 2022, the nation must advance from control to elimination by 2030. He urged students and faculty to work towards developing an effective TB eradication model that could serve as a benchmark for the world.
The World TB Day Lecture was delivered by Dr. Ranganath B.G., Professor of Community Medicine & Medical Superintendent, Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences & Research. Dr. Ranganath B.G. reminded the audience that one in every three individuals carries TB bacteria in their body, particularly in the lungs, where it remains dormant unless triggered. He emphasized that unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as alcohol consumption, drug abuse, and smoking, along with underlying health conditions like diabetes and malnutrition, can weaken the immune system, allowing the bacteria to become active and develop into a full-blown disease. Using real-time examples from his medical cases, he highlighted the critical role of a strong immune system and a healthy lifestyle in preventing TB, urging everyone to prioritize nutrition, hygiene, and regular health check-ups as key preventive measures.
The lecture emphasized the importance of early detection, preventive measures, and community engagement, inspiring students, and faculty to contribute towards a TB-free India. The successful organization of the event was led by Dr. Ramaiah Itumalla, Dean, School of Management, and Dr. Kabilan Annadurai, Assistant Professor & Program Coordinator, School of Health Sciences attended by the Deans, Head, faculty, and the students of the university.
