The Media Club of The Apollo University Celebrates National Press Day with Eminent Journalists

The Apollo University marked the celebration of National Press Day with a special event held at the Physiotherapy Department Seminar Hall from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. The day marks the inception of the Press Council of India (PCI), which came into effect on 16th November 1966, and serves as a reminder of the vital role of a free and responsible press in strengthening democracy and promoting transparency in society. The event was thoughtfully organized by the Media Club of The Apollo University, showcasing their commitment to fostering awareness about the role of a free and responsible press in society.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Bhat emphasized the importance of a vigilant press in upholding democratic values and ensuring accountability in governance. He spoke about the evolving landscape of media and its pivotal role in shaping public opinion, especially in the context of a rapidly digitizing world. He also stressed the role of a responsible press in a free country like India, highlighting its position as the fourth pillar of democracy. The Vice Chancellor emphasized the struggle and solidarity of the press, taking the students through the media’s involvement, from the independence struggle to the emergency period, and the modern days of interactive media.
Two distinguished resource persons were invited to share their insights on the significance of press freedom and the challenges faced by the media today. Mr. G. Sudhakar Naidu, a seasoned Reporter for Sakshi, delivered a compelling talk on the ethical responsibilities of journalists and the role of regional media in covering grassroots issues. He highlighted the importance of unbiased reporting in safeguarding the interests of the public.
Mr. C. Sanjeev Reddy, an experienced Journalist from Sakshi Channel, spoke about the impact of media on society and the growing influence of digital platforms in news dissemination. He shared his experiences from the field, underscoring the need for factual reporting and responsible journalism to maintain public trust highlighting the role of Press Council of India.
The event received valuable support from the Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, whose guidance was instrumental in its successful execution. The event was attended by Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, Controller of Examinations, and Dr. D. Jagadeesan, Associate Dean of the School of Technology. The dedicated efforts of Dr. Shaik Jakeer, Assistant Professor, School of Technology, as the Faculty Coordinator and the Student Coordinators of the Media Club ensured the successful execution of the event.
The Vice Chancellor honored the resource persons, Mr. G. Sudhakar Naidu and Mr. C. Sanjeev Reddy, for their significant contributions as journalists, recognizing their dedication to the field of media. The event witnessed an engaging interaction session where students and faculty had the opportunity to discuss various aspects of media ethics, the importance of press freedom, and the evolving role of journalists in the age of social media.
