The Apollo University Honors Birsa Munda on Gaurav Divas

The Apollo University celebrated Gaurav Divas with great respect and enthusiasm, honoring Birsa Munda, the iconic tribal leader and freedom fighter whose bold resistance against British rule marked a turning point in India’s history. The event, hosted by the Event Management Club, was held on 15th November at 3:00 PM and featured active participation from students, and faculty of The Apollo University. A floral tribute was also offered to the portrait of Birsa Munda, honoring his memory and contributions. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his address, Dr. Bhat spoke about the journey of indigenous communities, from being the original inhabitants to becoming affected by the colonizers and the interests of various invaders. He highlighted the historical context, starting from the invasion of Columbus to the modern encroachments on native lands. The Chief Guest emphasized the need to safeguard the rights and interests of indigenous people. He proudly acknowledged the special provisions in the Constitution of India aimed at protecting the Scheduled Tribes and preserving their traditional ways of life. He concluded by stressing that these communities require encouragement, not enforcement, to adapt to modern ways, citing the example of the tribes in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. A documentary was screened as part of the event, showcasing the life and legacy of Birsa Munda and his tribe. The film highlighted the contributions of India’s tribal or indigenous communities in the struggle for freedom and independence. It provided significant insights into their role and sacrifices, while also igniting a sense of respect for the nation’s commitment towards preserving the heritage and rights of these communities. The esteemed Registrar, Prof. M. Potharaju, played a crucial role behind the scenes, providing unwavering support and guidance that made the successful organization of the event possible. He praised the dedication of the Event Management Club and congratulated the coordinators for organizing the event as a grant success. The Controller of Examination, Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, and Dr. Ramaiah Itumalla, Dean (I/C) of the School of Management, were present at the event, adding their valuable insights and support. Ms. Anwesha Paul, Lecturer at the School of Health Sciences and Faculty Coordinator, played a fundamental role in the successful organization of the event, demonstrating exemplary coordination and commitment throughout the planning and execution stages. The Event Management Club of The Apollo University, driven by its committed members, flawlessly organized the celebration, leaving a strong impact on the audience while paying a dignified and respectful tribute to the legacy of Birsa Munda.
