Students Take a Stand for Unity: Skits, Pledges, and Documentaries Highlight National Unity Day at The Apollo University
The Apollo University commemorated National Unity Day in a moving celebration that honored the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the visionary leader who united India. Organized by the Social Responsibility Club, the event aimed to instill Patel’s ideals of integrity, unity, and national pride in students and faculty.
The event was graced by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. H. Vinod Bhat, who delivered an inspiring keynote speech. After presenting a floral tribute to Dr. Patel’s photograph, Dr. Bhat highlighted Patel’s tireless efforts to unite India’s diverse regions, cultures, and languages. He led the audience on a reflective journey through India’s path to independence, touching on Patel’s monumental task of integrating over 500 princely states. Concluding his address, Dr. Bhat emphasized that unity is about respecting our differences and building a stronger, more resilient community together.
A documentary screening followed, bringing to life Patel’s remarkable leadership and the lasting impact of his contributions on modern India. Students had the opportunity to witness Patel’s legacy as an enduring source of inspiration for unity and cooperation. A major highlight was the student-performed skit, which creatively depicted the struggles of a divided community and the transformative power of unity, drawing a parallel to the solidarity seen during the COVID-19 pandemic. The skit’s compelling message resonated deeply, illustrating how compassion and collaboration can bridge divides. After the skit, students and faculty gathered to take a unity pledge, affirming their commitment to inclusivity, mutual respect, and harmony on campus. The pledge underscored each person’s role in building a supportive and united university community.
The success of The Apollo University’s National Unity Day celebration was made possible by the dedicated support of Prof. M. Potharaju, Registrar; the motivation of Prof. A. Sethuramasubbiah, COE and Professor, School of Social Sciences; the enthusiasm of Dr. S. Shani, Student Affairs Coordinator; and the leadership of Dr. Athipalli Divya, Faculty Coordinator for the Social Responsibility Club and Assistant Professor at the School of Technology. Their guidance ensured that the event not only honored Sardar Patel’s legacy but also reinforced the university’s commitment to fostering respect, diversity, and shared purpose among its community members.
