Eco Club and NSS Units Lead Green Drive in Observance of Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana at The Apollo University
The Apollo University, in association with the University Eco Club and the NSS Units 1 and 2, organized a campus-wide plantation program as part of the ongoing Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana initiative of the State Forest Department. The green drive was conducted across various garden zones of the university to promote environmental protection, increase green cover, and encourage ecological responsibility among students.
The program was graced by Chittoor West Forest Range Officer, Shri M. Pattabhi, who served as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasized that the state government is actively working to expand green cover and is encouraging plantation activities as a mass movement. He highlighted that the Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana tradition symbolizes honouring nature, protecting biodiversity, and nurturing earth’s resources for future generations. He urged students and youth to take personal and collective responsibility in safeguarding the environment, stressing that every sapling planted today contributes to a healthier and greener tomorrow.
In his address,, Shri M. Pattabhi, emphasized the significance of Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana as a tradition that celebrates and strengthens the relationship between people and nature. He highlighted the State Government’s commitment to enhancing green cover across Andhra Pradesh and informed that large-scale plantation efforts are being promoted. He urged the youth to recognize their role as primary stakeholders in environmental sustainability and encouraged them to adopt tree plantation, water conservation, and eco-friendly practices as part of their day-to-day lives. His message resonated strongly with the students, inspiring them to actively contribute to conservation initiatives within and beyond the campus.
Following the inaugural remarks, students, faculty members, and the invited officials participated in planting saplings across the campus. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm as participants worked together to contribute to environmental restoration. To enhance student engagement, elocution competitions on the theme of Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana and environmental conservation were also conducted. Prizes were later awarded to students who displayed outstanding performance and thoughtful perspectives during the competition.
The program saw the active participation of Chittoor Section Deputy Range Officer C. Karan Singh, NSS Program Coordinator Dr. Hemadri Reddy, Eco Club Faculty Coordinator Dr. S. Feroz Begum, faculty members, NSS volunteers, and numerous students. Their collective involvement made the event meaningful, impactful, and reflective. Overall, the Karthika Vanasamaaraadhana Green Drive at The Apollo University served as an inspiring platform to promote ecological awareness supported the university’s green campus mission and encouraged students to continue contributing to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
