Yoga and Meditation Club Promotes Mental Well-Being on World Mental Health Day

The Yoga and Meditation Club of The Apollo University organized a special program to observe World Mental Health Day on 15th October 2025 with the theme “Wellness through Yoga and Mindfulness.” The event aimed to raise awareness about the significance of mental well-being and the role of mindfulness and yoga in promoting emotional balance, stress management, and overall mental health.

The observance was graced and inaugurated by Prof. Sethurama Subbaiah, Controller of Examinations, who served as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Hamsaveni, Associate Professor at SITAMS and Heartfulness Meditation Facilitator, as the Resource Person. Prof. Subbaiah emphasized the importance of mental health awareness in academic and professional settings, encouraging students and faculty to adopt regular practices for emotional and psychological wellness.

The session was designed to be highly interactive, combining informative discussions with practical exercises. Ms. Hamsaveni guided participants through a series of mindfulness and meditation techniques, including deep breathing exercises, guided visualization, and relaxation practices. These activities were aimed at reducing stress, improving concentration, and enhancing self-awareness. Participants were also educated on how to incorporate these practices into their daily routines to maintain mental equilibrium and resilience against stress and anxiety.

Faculty members and students from various departments actively participated in the session, demonstrating keen interest in the techniques demonstrated. The collaborative engagement created a positive and calming atmosphere, allowing participants to experience firsthand the benefits of yoga and mindfulness. The program also included discussions on the psychological and physiological benefits of consistent practice, emphasizing its relevance in academic performance, personal development, and overall well-being.

The event concluded with a short interactive session where participants shared their experiences, reflections, and plans for continuing mindfulness practices beyond the observance. The program successfully highlighted the critical role of mental health in daily life and reinforced the value of proactive approaches, such as yoga and meditation, to promote emotional stability and resilience.

The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr. Kavitha S, Assistant Dean, SoHS and Faculty coordinator, Yoga and Meditataion Club and the leadership of the student Coordinator, Mr. Y Dilip Kumar. Dr. Keerthana Thankachan, Assistant Director of International Affairs and Press and Publications was also present for the event. The observance of World Mental Health Day by the Yoga and Meditation Club created awareness and inspired participants to adopt practical strategies for mental wellness.
