Over 100 NSS Volunteers Participate in Cleanliness and Plantation Drive at District Hospital

As part of the Swachhata Hi Seva initiative under the nationwide Special Campaign 4.0 for Swachhata, The Apollo University, Chittoor, took a lead with the NSS Units of AIMSR Chittoor and The Apollo College of Nursing, Chittoor in organising a large-scale cleanliness and plantation drive on Friday, 3rd October 2025, at the Government District Headquarters Hospital premises in Chittoor. The initiative was coordinated and led under the guidance of Prof. M. Pothuraju, Registrar, The Apollo University, with the active collaboration of the NSS Wings of the institutions of AKC.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 100 NSS volunteers and faculty members representing different departments. The collective efforts of the volunteers transformed the hospital premises into a cleaner and greener environment. Volunteers cleaned the hospital surroundings, removing garbage, plastic waste, and weeds, thereby restoring hygiene and sanitation to the public healthcare space. Following the cleaning activity, saplings were planted around the campus to enhance the greenery, promote environmental sustainability, and contribute to the well-being of patients, attendants, and hospital staff.

In addition to physical participation, the event aimed to spread awareness on the importance of cleanliness and hygiene as the foundation of public health. Volunteers interacted with hospital staff and visitors, emphasizing the message that “Clean surroundings are the pathway to good health.” Their initiative not only revitalize the hospital environment but also creates a sense of responsibility among citizens to actively engage in maintaining cleanliness in their communities.

The event was successfully executed with the leadership and coordination of Dr. Hemadri Reddy, NSS Coordinator, The Apollo University; Ms. Leelavathi, Nursing College NSS Coordinator; and Dr. Hemant Reddy, Senior Resident, AIMSR. Their consistent efforts ensured smooth organization and impactful execution of the campaign.

The drive concluded with appreciation from the hospital administration and the participating volunteers, revealed their commitment to environmental stewardship, public health awareness, and social responsibility. The initiative served as a path for nurturing socially conscious citizens and promoting sustainable community engagement through youth-led action.
